The difference between Early Voting and Absentee Ballots!

https://ballotpedia.org/Early_voting#Arguments

Early voting (also called pre-poll voting or advance polling) is the process by which electors can vote prior to the scheduled election day. Early voting can take place remotely, such as postal voting, or in person, usually in designated early voting polling stations. The availability and time periods for early voting vary between jurisdictions and type of election. The goal of early voting is usually to increase voter participation and relieve congestion at polling stations on election day.
The types of people who vote early include people who will be out of the polling area during the election period, poll workers, campaign workers, people with medical procedures scheduled for that time, adherents to religious commitments, among others.
The numbers of voters who vote early has increased in recent years. As unconditional (no excuse) early voting has gained ground, voices have been raised against it as seriously damaging to the democratic process.[1][2]

Vote Early If You Won't Be Home!

Early Voting is available in Massachusetts.
Early voting starts October 24 and runs through Nov. 4!

Absentee Voter Eligibility

In order to be eligible to vote by absentee ballot in Massachusetts, a voter must be prevented from voting at their polling place on Election Day, due to:
Absence from the voter's city or town on Election Day; or
Physical disability; or Religious belief.

Early voting will be available for biennial November state elections only, beginning with the November 8, 2016 State Election.

Applying for Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots must be requested in writing by either the voter or the voter's family member. For convenience, absentee ballot applications may be downloaded from this page; however, any written communication evidencing a desire for an absentee ballot is acceptable. If you would like to request an absentee ballot, you may submit an application or a signed letter to your local election official.

If you are requesting an absentee ballot for a family member, be sure to submit the request to the voter's local election official.

When completing the application, you may indicate whether you are requesting a ballot for a specific election, or if you will be needing a ballot for all elections this year. Please note that absentee ballot applications expire at the end of each calendar year. If you are a voter with a permanent physical disability, you may file a note from your doctor to that effect with your local election official. Voters with permanent physical disabilities are sent completed applications at the beginning of each year, to be signed and returned to their local election official.

All requests for absentee ballots must be received by your local election official no later than 12 p.m. on the day before the election for which the ballot is being requested. Applications may be submitted in person, by mail, fax, or by e-mail; however, the local election official must be able to view the signature of the person requesting the ballot. If the application is being submitted by e-mail, a scanned copy of the request must be submitted.

Contact information for local election officials may be found here.

If you might be away on or near election day, like our daughter's wedding will be out of the country and we won't be back until Monday, November 7th but if we are delayed by weather situations we won't be able to vote on Tuesday, Nov. 8th!

About Cape Cod Rocks the Vote

Rock the Vote, founded in 1990 in response to a wave of attacks on freedom of speech and artistic expression, coordinates voter registration drives, get out the vote events, and voter education efforts -- all with the intention of building political power for our nation's youth and leveraging that political power to influence change in our country. Our work doesn't end when the polls close.

We empower young people to create necessary change in their communities and stand up for the values they hold including diversity, tolerance, and freedom of expression.

And we continue to fight to make sure that their voices are heard in Washington by politicians on both sides of the aisle, leading voters under 30 in the fight for our basic rights as citizens of this democracy, equal participation in the voting process, and equal representation by those we elect.
